How did you feel
Before I began branding Cottage Hill, I had a very specific idea in my head of what the brand needed to represent. I knew exactly how I wanted readers to feel when they saw the logo, I knew what sort of creativity and ideas I wanted the colors to inspire. However, I am a writer, not a designer, so I was a little nervous to see what exactly the finished product of all of those ideas would create. How would everything translate into a cohesive branding board?
How do you feel now?
Now, I feel like Cottage Hill has a beautiful face to match its name and stories. The combination of my original ideas and Kathryn’s beautiful, visual interpretation of the brand was like meeting an old friend when we finally finished the branding board. It felt like Cottage Hill finally had a home.
What did you walk away with after working with Kathryn?
The partnership with Kathryn was one of the first, close partnerships I experienced just starting my business — other than my accountant and lawyer. Her level of talent and professionalism set a high bar for my current and future creative partnerships.
Did you have any
along the way?
One wonderful nugget Kathryn offers in her branding process is the word list. Basically, it’s the list of words that describes your brand. Something as simple and direct as this list was constantly utilized while making branding and even business decisions.
Is there anything you are excited about for your business now?
She put the pages (all 17 pages) of my brand’s description in a neat, succinct format that was easy to reference, especially when making those deeply specific design decisions. Now that Cottage Hill has its initial branding completed, I am so excited to see the beautiful logo, colors, fonts and design ideas utilized in web and print in the coming months. I cannot wait to share my message with the world now that it will be so elegantly conveyed through Kathryn’s designs.
What was it like
working with Kathryn?
Working with Kathryn was a joy. She did more than brand Cottage Hill. She was a friend, an encourager, a confidant, a business coach, a life coach, and exceeded all of my expectations. Kathryn is one of the few people who are divinely talented, and yet so graciously humble. Her process is so efficient and professional, yet her spirit is so endearing. I’m a little sad the initial branding is over, but I am so excited to continue working with Kathryn on more, smaller projects ahead!
Do you have any advice
on branding for others?
My advice for those ready for the branding journey is to be honest. Get honest with what exactly your brand represents, what it does, how it makes people feel. The more specific you are with those key things, the better your branding process will be and the better your business will be.
Be open to new possibilities. What is in your head right now may completely change the more you get to know your brand. Be open to potential change.
Live your brand. That is something that is so easy to forget when you spend all hours of the day behind a laptop or in a studio. Make sure you get outside of the office, and go do, and experience the things your brand believes in. Not only does it make you more honest, but it is a complete game changer in making what matters happen in your life.
