Branding & Rebranding Your Business: 5 Things You Should Know

Do you ever feel like your branding design is in a need of a refresh? Are you ready to take your brand to the next level? It might be time to consider rebranding! But how do you know for sure that rebranding is right for you and your business, and how do you pivot from your current branding to a rebrand?

There are so many details and routes to consider, and we know it all may feel a little overwhelming at times. As brand designers we’re here to streamline the rebranding process for you and your business. So sit back and relax, because we’re sharing our best advice on how to decide if it’s time to rebrand your business and what you need to know about rebranding.

5 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT REBRANDING YOUR BUSINESS

01 | Rebrand based on your business goals.

Take the time to sort through whether you have actual business goals tied to a rebrand, or whether it’s just because you want to change up the aesthetic or keep up with someone else.

Remember, purpose trumps pretty every time. And, while rebranding will give your brand a fresh, updated design, the message it helps you communicate and the specific audience it will help you reach is even more powerful. When you choose to dive into rebranding because it’s in line with your business goals, rebranding becomes a vehicle to help you get to where you want to go!

Think far out with your rebranding project. Rebranding is not a short-term project. It will have a long lived impact on your business. We encourage people to think about rebranding in light of the direction they want to take their business. What is your 5 year plan? Where do you see your business 10 years from now? Rebranding will help pave that path!

Since rebranding is a long-term decision, you don’t have to feel pressure that you must embark on it next month. In fact, you may find that taking 6-12 months to save up for the project and connect with your designer gives you more time to think about your brand strategy and goals, and so you come to the project even more prepared!

02 | Rebrand in a way that is true to you.

When you are going through the rebranding design process, try as much as possible to do so in a vacuum. Before hopping on Pinterest to start piecing together your dream design, you need to reflect on your purpose as a business owner (read more about starting your Pinterest board in our post Branding Tips: Should You Start a Pinterest Board).

It’s time to search your heart for why you’re in business, what you want to say, and who you really want to say it to. When you go through the rebranding process in a way that is true to you, you can start with your “why” instead of someone else’s “what.”

03 | Focus on the feeling.

Branding design is all about how you make someone feel. Focus on how you want your brand to feel, not on specific spacing, font, or Pantone color — that’s your brand designer’s job.

You may have seen a specific brand design on the internet and gotten your heart set on someone else’s brand or a specific design detail. But, resist the urge to copy and keep an open mind for your designer to create you something original and completely unique to your brand. A custom design sets your business apart! Sometimes it’s hard to stay open to new things, but we promise you it’s worth it :)

04 | Pace yourself and keep an open mind.

Both the branding and rebranding process involve a myriad of details and decisions, so pace yourself as much as you can. Get a jump start on culling through your images and writing copy for your website early on. If you think you may want to get new headshots or do a styled shoot for your website launch or to use for your social media accounts, go ahead and set that up. Getting these pieces in motion sooner rather than later will allow you to kick back, relax, and enjoy the rebrand launch week.

05 | Be confident about what makes your brand unique.

Many of our clients have told us that rebranding is a time that reignites their passion for their business. You’ll be challenged to feel more comfortable in your own skin. There’s only one business out there that has your unique perspective, style, and experiences. Don’t be afraid to own the stuff that makes you special or the ways that your business goes against the industry norms. These are very things that make your brand magic. The very things that make it you. Our job as your designer is to help you bring the magic of your brand to life.
